This time we are finding out about Managing Editor Donal Thompson.
Where are you from?
Ireland genetically. Spain emotionally.
What do you teach?
I teach presentation skills, English, teaching skills. I also work an editor.
Why did you become a teacher?
I come from a family of teachers. I can think of nothing better than helping other people see how brilliant they are. Education is exactly that.
Who do you most admire and why?
There are so many people I admire: The Tolpuddle Martyrs, Emmeline Pankhurst, Tony Benn, Turlough O’ Carolan…uff..the list is endless.
What do you do when you are not teaching?
I play music in an Irish band called An Triúr Thart (The Thirsty Three) and I make teacher training videos. I also write. I have a book of poems available on Amazon and I am writing a book of short stories about the town where I live
What music / food / films / books do you like?
I love all music with the possible exception of reggaeton. My favourite film is ’37°2 Le Matin’ directed by Jean Jacques Beineix. My favourite book is ‘Awareness’ by Anthony De Mello. Oh and for food…anything Indian.
What is your ambition?
To write the best love song ever.
Tell us something important/funny/strange that has happened to you?
When I was a child, I had an out-of-the-body experience. In later life I won the BBC Alfred Bradley Bursary for some poems I wrote. Also, I don’t like mushrooms.
What attracted you to My Cool Class?
Its time has come. Teachers have a great deal of patience. It’s high time we didn’t. I am tired of being undervalued and exploited by people who have no interest in education. MyCoolClass is teacher owned. Let’s teach like a boss.
Anything else you’d like to tell us?
I am a fan of Port Vale and Real Sociedad football clubs and have a certificate in Editorial Project Management from the Universidad Europea.
